With the fifth pick in the 2018 NFL draft, the Denver Broncos selected pass rusher Bradley Chubb out of NC State. John Elway’s off-season claim that Case Keenum was his guy and would be the franchise quarterback moving forward seems to be legitimate as he passed on Josh Rosen for Chubb.
The Denver Broncos Have Selected Bradley Chubb
Chubb was the best pass rusher in this draft, and Elway doubles down on defense by giving Von Miller a buddy in the pass rush. The Broncos selected Shane Ray to be Miller’s bookend back in 2015, but he’s been a total bust since then, only registering 13 career sacks.
The Broncos are hoping that Chubb can come right in and terrorize the other AFC West quarterbacks alongside Miller and Ray, filling the void DeMarcus Ware left when he retired. Chubb registered twenty sacks in his last two years as a starter at NC State, and posted impressive numbers at the combine.
It’ll be interesting to see if he can overcome the questions about his toughness, really making an impact for Denver’s defense, especially with Josh Rosen, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson still on the board.
